In the middle of Deák tér there is a monument to the 1848 infantry regiment, made by Zsigmond Kisfaludi Stróbl. A church, and a bust of István Széchenyi are also to be found in the square in addition to the national flag and the statue of the "turul", the mythical eagle of the ancient Hungarians, renovated by the association dedicated to preservation of town's heritage.

Behind the church and just a few minutes' walk away, we can reach the cultural centre, named after Sándor Hevesi, who was born in the town.

The main church is a Franciscan church built in 1702-1714 in Baroque style. It is a listed building. Its tower was completed in 1816. It has a rich, Baroque internal decoration. The high altar piece was painted by Gaspar Franz Sambach. Its pulpit is especially beautiful. The church is unique in that its holy water basin was carved from Mustafa Pasha's tombstone bearing a Turkish inscription.

Added to the west side of the church is the Franciscan monastery built at the same time as the church. Today it houses the town library.

The monument erected in 1996 to commemorate the former Kanizsa castle can be found towards the country frontier, past the industrial park. The castle was originally built on an island in the marsh, but there is no visible evidence of it today. We can find the bronze bust of the famous commander, György Thury in front of the substantial brick bastion, which resembles a castle gate house.

The Inkey burial vault, built by Boldizsár Inkey in 1768, can be seen near a level crossing by the road leading to Zalaegerszeg. It is a Baroque listed building. In front of it, a carved memorial urn, made in 1842, stood until 1936, when it was moved to a small park in the centre of the town.

Boating lake

The 40-hectare leisure area with a man-made lake is becoming more and more popular. It is situated 5 kms from the town centre, along the road to Kaposvár. You can go fishing, rowing, or do physical exercises on the woodland circuit training area. Nearby there is a good restaurant, which is well worth a visit.

Romlottvár

There are several versions of the local legend. Some say it was Zrínyi's castle, other claim it was the Pasha of Kanizsa's pleasure house. In reality it used to be a small family castle, and was called the castle of Botszentgyörgy. When it was abandoned, its material was carried away.
