Places of interest:
Szent Mihály kápolna - St Michael's chapel On St Michael's hill there might have been a watchtower in Roman times, and the Györök castle stood here from 1543. A part of a fresco dated 1622 indicates that in the 17th century a small chapel existed on the same site. According to legend, St Michael's chapel was erected by 46 fishermen out of gratitude for their miraculous escape from the ice floes on Lake Balaton in 1739. Though it must have been only reconstruction or enlarging rather than building. The writer Mór Jókai described it as a building without a tower in the middle of the last century. The hill, which is 2 kms away from the village centre, offers a beautiful view both of the Keszthely mountains and of Lake Balaton. |
